Argyll has to be one of the best outdoor activity areas in the UK. We are blessed with a beautiful salmon/ seatrout river, The Ruel, on which we can arrange fishing on a day or weekly permit basis, and we are situated overlooking a glorious sea loch, Loch Riddon, where excellent sea fishing can be arranged from a boat [or you can take a spinning rod to the nearby pier, and catch mackerel and other species from land]. The Loch Riddon Estuary is a Site of Special Scientific Interest [SSSI] with truly amazing flora and fauna within yards of the cottages. The area is also an ornithologist’s dream with numerous waders, wildfowl, eagles, harriers, buzzards and countless small birds all likely to be seen from the sitting room in the cottages. In summer, excitingly a pair of ospreys are now regular vistors. Red squirrels abound in the area, and you may well see otters, seals and even perhaps a pine marten close by. There are several golf courses within easy distances (See Golf), and top quality stalking for red and roe deer according to season can be arranged locally with experienced stalkers. For a calendar of forthcoming events, go to the Wild About Argyll website where you will also find details of many of the loveliest walks in the area; |
